Getting Ready
Hi Peoples

As you may notice, or should have noticed if you're reading this, the home page has changed such that it displays the current top map. This is because the site no longer needs frequent updates, and is perfectly functional. Upgrades will still occour, however, they will be silent editions that wont affect the site that much.

Now alot of people are probably think, "login system?", well that will hopefully be implimented soon. But at this point the site seems to be functioning well without it. Also the actual implimentation is significantly more difficult than originally thought, and if it is to be secure and functional, more time and planning will be needed.

Thankyou for your continued support of the Charred Dirt Map Depot

New Listings
Hi Peoples

As you may notice there has been a new page added to the links bar. "Directory" is basically the same as the gallery except it doesn't display the pictures and individual layout, consequently this page is ideal for diap-up peoples, as it will load much faster.

Hi Peoples

There has been new sorting options added into the gallery (told u there'd be more :P ) this now includes; rating, submission date, username, map file size. There are a few more possibilities which I may impliment should the need arise

New IRC
Hi peoples

Yep thats right, due to a recent aquisition of a "new" computer running linux, a CGI:IRC site has been setup specifically for charred dirt peoples. This new type means you can access IRC without having open ports on your computer, thus it works from behind firewalls liek those found at school (specifically mine!).

Please enjoy this new feature, and rest assured, now that I have a linux box, there should be more interesting features to come, maybe even an IRC server. But thats enough drewling for tonight...

Partial Revamp
Hi Peoples,

As you have undoubtedly noticed the colour scheme has been changed. Though the revamp is still in a transitional stage, it is looking much better...thanks to the lack of blue :P

The login system is also in its preliminary planning stages, as it needs to be secure and practical. But hopefully this should be completed by the end of next week.

Please, if you have any colour suggestions submit it in the comments section, on the forum, or speak to me on IRC.

Ideas Time
Hi Peoples,

As I am coming up to a holiday break, I will have a chance to improve this site. In order to do this, I need you peoples to give me suggestions on what the depot should have. This includes everything from layout to functionality, so please contribute.

To make a suggestion, goto the comments section here, or, preferably, goto the "Map Depot Suggestions" thread on the Charred Dirt Forum

Its Official
Hi Peoples

The Charred Dirt Map Depot has recieved official mention on the Charred Dirt Forums

Not only that but we have now got an official banner, made by the Lord of the Burt Soil Protocal, MadboyV1.

Thanks to all that have contributed by submitting maps, hosting and designing awsome graphics!

In other news, the Australian school holidays are less than two weeks away, which means that hopefully some extra features may be implimented

All Good
Hi Peoples,

As you may or may not know the map depot was relocated about 2 weeks ago, and ran into very few complications. This is largely due to the generosity of JAJMaster who assisted with the move and provided the hosting.

There have been a steady flow of maps coming in, most of which are of admirable quality. So thanks to those willing to show off their artistic talent!

The depot will remain fairly unchanged for at least 3 more weeks, however then (hopefully) some new features will be added.

At Last!
Hi Peoples

The submission system and the gallery are finally ready for heavy duty use.

The Gallery has had a facelift and thanks to TwelveBaud's TA2Mini, the maps are looking excellent. So big thanks to TwelveBaud!

Ugh!
Hi Peoples,

You may notice some..well...wholes in the depot. The missing pictures are probably the most obvious, the reason they are like that is because I have not generated to images files using terrash yet.

Also the submission form is out of order. However there is some good news! The file streaming is working, which means this site is much more secure.

Revamp!
Hi Peoples

The depot has almost finished it's overhaul. The new features are effective in the subission page and the map gallery. The submission now incorperates Terrash2 Mini which produces very nice pictures. You are also able to submit other pictures and they will be displayed via a hyperlink labeled "Misc Pic".

Pics to drewl over
Hi peoples!

I once again haven't really been posting much here, as there hasn't really been much to report about. However there has been a couple of developments.

Smackbringer has done some excellent wallpapers, that I have decided to host on this server as well. That said, Smack has said that he is redoing some of these so they will be linked then.

There will soon be a new downloading system, which will increase security, as well as the long awaited TA2Mini implementation. This will all happen soon hopefully =)

Major Development
Hi Peoples,

I have started the implimentation of TA2Mini provided by TwelveBaud. The addition of this into the system has unearthed some interesting insecurities and mistakes all of which I hope to stamp out. There will also be a major restructure of the system; including directory structure and download method, in order to increase security.

With the new system there will be no need to provide screenshots, however if you wish, you are able to provide an addition picture of your map in action.

The work has started but I dont know when it will be finished. Also I have concieved a primitive way to enable editing of your submissions. It will most likely be that you specify a password when you submit the file and when you have to edit it, you have to enter it in. As far as security goes with this feature, the password will be hashed such that I cant even find the password.

Another important addition! I will also be adding a checking feature which will prevent peoples from submitting files that are invalid, ie submitting a .exe file instead of a map

Long Time No Post
Hi peoples,

Sorry about the lack postage, I have been quite busy with school lately :(

Anyway, there has been some updates on the depot. Down the bottom left of the page you will see that there has been a new section added, that being the IP address which has visited the site the most. The method of gaining that information is primitive to say the least, so please dont spam it. Also down the very bottom of the screen you will see your IP address. I may move it up to the top of the page, but only if you peoples want it.

Thanks to StfN we not only have alot more (very good) maps, but have fixed a minor bug on the subission page, that being the broken image.

Last but not least I think the rating bug has been fixed, meaing that no spamming can take place unless cookie are turned off, come to think of it, I may have to block rating capability for those with turned off cookies if spamming becomes an issue. Oh and before anyone points the finger, my map has 26 or so votes because I was using it to test the rating system, I may or may not delete the records depending on my level of effort. =)

Anywho, thats me done

Functionality
Hi peoples,

With regards to my last post, that is sort of been patched up, however it isn't perfect. I am hoping to get some insight into the reason it isn't working through JAJ, who is much better than I am :D.

Otherwise this site is fully operational, and the commenting system and login system are currently being developed. I hope to get them done as soon as possible however efforts are being hampered by parental pressure...

Please keep the maps coming!

Bad News...
Hi peoples

The rating system is currently having problems, it will still register your vote, though the cookie does not register meaning you can vote repeditively. I urge you not to do this though.

Good News!
Hi peoples,

The problem with updating of database entries has been resolved, with much thanks to JAJMaster. I wont fill you in with the details of the fault as it will almost definately destroy my reputation...

With this problem being amended, the commenting system and login system can now be brought into being. Though unforetunetly this will take a little longer than other new features, as it needs to be secure.

well thats the good news...

More Features!
Hi Peoples,

As requested on the Charred Dirt Forums I have added the capability to sort the maps by date and rating, however, the default is to sort by username. you may also have noticed that there has also been as "latest map" column been added to this page too. The map name links to the map, while the username links to that user's statistics.

I have also recieved confirmation that a login system is needed. This will unforetunely take longer to impliment than the other features, but I will do it. This system will also mean more user statistics, such as number of logins, and others that I am too tired to think of.

Oh well, now your up to date

Map Charts
Hi peoples,

Yet another new system has been devised. This one (as u can see to the left of the screen) shows the highest rated maps on the depot. This will be expanded later when more maps are here, to have a link to the top 10.

Also the ranking system seems to have been a huge success, with quite a few people giving their opinion on the maps.

More good news! miniTerrash has reportedly been completed by TwelveBuad, which means I can have that up and running fairly soon

Info and Vote Counting
Hi peoples,

The rating system has been updated to include the number of votes, which is something I really cant explain why I forgot...Also a user lookup system has been added, once again under the search form, which enables you to select a user and view how many maps the user has submitted, and then view the maps by that user. This function is admittedly in its infancy but I will expand on it.

Thats all for now, have fun at Otakon those who are going!

Ratings Are Up!
Hi peoples!

The rating system is now operational! I know I said that I would do that after the commenting system, however, due to difficulties this was not to be. When you rate a map, you cannot rate the same map again within 10 hours. This is achieve through cookies...so if you really wanted to spam this, yes, you could just delete your cookies. Though I hope you wont...

Anyway that my nights work done!

Maps!
Hi peoples!

We have received some new maps by Jotto. While they may appear simple, just try playing them. Well done and keep 'em coming!

You may have noticed the new "info" section located under the search table, this contains the number of maps in the depot and the number of users that have submitted maps, though I'm sure you could work that out youselves. Along with this, this page's layout has been altered slightly to make it look nicer, at least in my opinion =)

The next item on my list of "todo's" is the commenting system. This will enable other user's to make comments about the maps that have been submitted. After that comes a rating system which is fairly self explanitary.

Oh yeh...the maps will soon have a submittal date on them. Why I didn't include this to begin with is beyond me, but it will be added.

All is quiet on the Western front!
Hi Peoples, (or lack of peoples)

The Map Depot is pretty much finished, it is now quite secure and is looking quite alot better. Depite this however, the maps haven't exactly been rolling in...if this is due to a technical fault, please say so in the Problems page or post your problem on the Charred Dirt Forum. Otherwise please feel free to upload your maps!

Also if you happen to have any suggestions please contact me in the manner described above; I am always open to suggestions.

Well thats all from me...the keeper and creator of this lonely place =)

Getting Pretty
Hi Peoples,

As you have no doubt noticed I have begun making this place look better. I am using CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to achieve this, and so far (at least in my opinion) the results look decent. That said, I would appreciate any comments on how to make the depot look nice, as I am severly lacking in creative ability.

In other news, I have fixed up the last of TwelveBuad's bugs, which let you submit database information even if a file upload error occured. Admittedly the mistake was stupid; I forgot to add in a variable in part of an if statement that told the code not to submit info to the database.

Anyways thats all for now

Security Fix

Hi Peoples,

Apologies for the site being down before, I was informed that port 70 was blocked by Opera, mean some people couldn't access the site. Also the gallery may have been acting a little wierd...as TwelveBuad decided to test whether scripts work.

There has been a security fix, which stops peoples submitting scripts and other nasty code in the text boxes of all forms. There will be a comment with the forms, telling which tags may be used. I would put them here, however, im to lazy, and I cant submit code to quote the variable...

Anyways hope this works! If other bugs are found please let me know.

All Cleaned Up
Hi Peoples!

That's it, the Charred Dirt Map Depot is up and functioning. I have included some new features oultined below:

1. Directory Browsing - This is enabled on the files directory, so that if you prefer going there directly you can.
Available Here

2. FTP access - If you would prefer accessing the files via ftp, you can by going to this address: ftp://redness.ath.cx.
The user name is "cdirt" and the password is not needed so leave it blank.

3. Files and Updates - This site will now also act as a mirror for Charred Dirt patches and files. On the respective page there is a box named "Shadowfang", this is for him to type his password (which is hard coded) and upload the files.

In addition to this the site behind the scenes has been cleaned up, using the "include" function copiously, to ensure maximum efficiency. This will also make for easier expanding of this site.
There are also some new features on there way, for instance, I hope to impliment miniTerrash, which will provide more acurrate data about the maps, and hopefully even produce thumbnails.

Oh well thats it for me, until next time!

Open for Business!
Well its the morning (my time) and it seems all is quiet on the western front...

The Map Depot is now offically open for business!

Unforetunately, however, this map submition is not functional for those with a ping over 800 (approx). To check your ping, use the ping command and point it at 210.49.100.37. Though, i hope this wont be neccessary.

Successful Bugfix
Success! I have almost completed this site. I have fine tuned the submition method, such that now you can enter partial information. I have also modified the gallery so that it agrees with the different submition method.

Of course you can also see that I have made a news section on this page, which I will keep updated on events relating to Charreddirt in general and the Map Depot.
